Mountain summer in St. Valentin auf der Haide

The perfect blend of a relaxing & active vacation

Escape the heat and spend a refreshing summer vacation in the Obervinschgau region at 1450 m above sea level. Aside from countless hikes, cycling tours and mountain-bike trails, you will also discover a wide selection of water sports, such as kitesurfing and fishing expeditions by boat.
But the Obervinschgau also has much to offer culture lovers as well. Why not visit nearby Marienberg Abbey, the highest Benedictine abbey in Europe, or the famous Churburg near Schluderns, with its big collection of historical arms and armaments.
Due to its convenient location in the „Three-Countries Corner“ of Switzerland, Austria and Italy, St. Valentin is also an ideal starting point for daytrips to Merano (I), Innsbruck (A) or St. Moritz (CH).

A Paradise for Nature Lovers & Hiking Fans

The Obervinschgau is a popular holiday destination for hikers and mountaineers, with countless hiking routes and a full range of difficulty to choose from.
We especially recommend taking a leisurely walk along the shores of the Haidersee, particularly popular with nature lovers. If you are looking for a challenge and you are in the appropriate physical condition, you will find just what you are looking for by hiking up to one of our local peaks, for example to the top of the Seebodenspitze.
If you prefer hiking across alpine meadows to a mountain hut, we suggest making your way to the Weisskugelhütte in Langtaufers or the Sesvennahütte in nearby Schlinigtal Valley.
For families, a walk along the Talai path in St. Valentin is highly recommended and promises all kinds of action. Likewise, a visit to the some 2 km-long Gumperle forest-animal path is certain to be lots of fun for big and small alike.

Two-Wheeling through Vinschgau

„Sunday cyclists“ especially enjoy the gently downhill Etsch Bike Path along the Via Claudia Augusta Roman road. It runs from Reschensee via Burgeis, through the small medieval town of Glurns, past Kastelbell Castle, and on to Merano.

Bike rentals: If you would like to rent out a bike locally, seven train stations along the Etsch Bike Path offer bicycles from „Südtirol Rad“. Here you can borrow bikes and return them at any of the stations along the route, then either continue, or return by train.

Bike storage: If you bring your own bike, we are happy to provide you with a safe, dry place to park it.

Fishing on the Haidersee – an insider tip for anglers!

Lake Haidersee (elev. ca. 1450 m) is an absolute paradise for fans of fishing. Making their home in the lake are many species including whitefish, various trout, pike and perch.
Fishing permits can be obtained either directly from the boat house or at Gasthof Alpenrose in Fischerhäuser, or at the Angerer bakery in the village center of St. Valentin.
